Itinerary: 6 days through the Imperial Cities

Welcome in Casablanca with a Spanish-speaking driver. Visit to the breathtaking Hassan II Mosque, the only one in Morocco open to non-Muslims and one of the largest in the world. Transfer to Rabat, imperial capital of the kingdom. Free afternoon to explore the Hassan Tower, the Mausoleum of Mohammed V and the Kasbah of the Udayas.
After breakfast, visit to Meknes, an Imperial City and UNESCO World Heritage Site, with its 40 km of walls and the imposing Bab Mansour gate. We carry on to Volubilis to explore its remarkably preserved Roman mosaics, the temple of Jupiter and the arch of Caracalla. Arrival in Fez at dusk and accommodation in a riad inside the medina.
Guided tour of the Fez el-Bali medina, a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Visit to the Karaouine Mosque and University, one of the oldest universities in the world (founded in 859 AD), the Bou Inania madrasa and the famous Chouara tanneries, seen from the terraces of the leather shops. Free afternoon for the craft markets.
We head south through Ifrane, nicknamed the "Switzerland of Africa" for its alpine architecture and cool climate. Stop in the cedar forest of the Middle Atlas to see Barbary macaques in the wild. Across the Ziz Valley to Erfoud, famous for its fossils. On reaching Merzouga we climb onto camels and ride into the spectacular dunes of Erg Chebbi at sunset. Night in a Berber camp under the stars.
An early start to watch the sun rise over the dunes, a sight you will not forget. Camel ride back to camp and Bedouin breakfast. Visit to the traditional market of Rissani. We cross the impressive Todra Gorge, a canyon 200 metres deep carved into the rock, and follow the Road of a Thousand Kasbahs through the Dades Valley. Arrival in Ouarzazate, the "Hollywood of Morocco", with a visit to the Taourirt kasbah.
Visit to the extraordinary ksar of Ait Ben Haddou, a walled village of clay and stone listed by UNESCO as a World Heritage Site and the backdrop of films such as Gladiator, Game of Thrones and Lawrence of Arabia. We climb into the High Atlas with a stop at the Telouet kasbah and cross the Tizi n'Tichka pass, at more than 2,200 metres. Arrival in Marrakech, the last Imperial City. Free afternoon in the medina.
